USWNT
The USWNT team ended a successful trip to Portugal by defeating France in the Algarve Cup final 2-0. This title was the 10th time the US won the Algarve Cup. Ali Krieger played the entire match for the US. Crystal Dunn and Ashlyn Harris were available subs.
Mex WNT
The Mex WNT secured third place in the Cyprus Women’s Cup by beating Italy 3-2 in the third place match. The Mexicans came back late in the match scoring two goals in quick succession in the 86th and 87th minutes. Veronica Perez scored the winning goal for Mexico in the 87th minute. Ari Romero was an available sub.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
The Washington Spirit had an intrasquad scrimmage as its first preseason game on Saturday March 14th. The fans came out despite the rainy weather to watch the Blue team beat the White team 2-1. Estefania Banini and Caprice Dydasco scored for the Blue team, and Amanda Da Costa picked up a goal for the White team.
UPCOMING SPIRIT MATCH
On Saturday March 21st the team will face Virginia Tech, the Spirit’s first opponent of the preseason. Virginia Tech finished the 2014 season with an impressive 16-6 record in the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Hokies earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament but went out in the Round of 16 to Penn State.
SPIRIT REGULAR SEASON
The Washington Spirit will begin its 2015 season on the road facing the Houston Dash on Friday, April 10th at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Spirit will make its home debut against FC Kansas City at Maureen Hendricks Field the following weekend on Saturday, April 18th at 7 p.m.
