The Washington Spirit have announced that they have acquired forward, Danesha Adams in a trade with the Houston Dash. Adams was the ninth overall pick in the expansion draft held on Friday, Jan. 10. In exchange, the Washington Spirit have sent forward, Stephanie Ochs to Houston.
Danesha Adams, 27, a native of Walnut, California attended UCLA where she played for four years. During her career as a Bruin, Adams helped them reach four straight NCAA College Cups. UCLA also won the Pac-10 Championship every year of her career. She holds the school record for scoring during the NCAA Tournament with 41 points. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2004 and 2005.
Adams has previously played for the Chicago Red Stars and Philadelphia Independence in 2009 and 2010, respectively. In 2013 while with Sky Blue FC, Adams started in 20 matches, scoring three goals and making three assists.
“Danesha is someone we have admired for some time; she has great power and pace and is a consistent threat all over the field,” general manager and head coach Mark Parsons of the new addition. “It has been a priority to bring in experienced players that can make an immediate impact and Danesha brings that and so many other exciting qualities.”
Ochs started in 21 matches for the Washington Spirit during its inaugural season, scoring two goals and assisting in one, recording a total of 1,842 minutes.
“It is sad to be losing Steph. She is a great person, has an exciting future ahead and we all will miss her in DC,” Mark Parsons said. “This move will give Steph the opportunity to get the games that she needs to continue her development. I want to thank her on behalf of the club for the great work she did for us on and off the field in 2013.”
