The Washington Spirit acquired midfielder Christine Nairn from Seattle Reign FC in exchange for the discovery rights to forward Kim Little.
This trade is the final piece of a larger trade in which the Spirit acquired Christine, forward Renae Cuellar, and the discovery rights for forward Jodie Taylor. Seattle received the discovery rights to Kim Little, Nikki Marshall, and Alina Garciamendez.
Nairn, 23, was selected by the Reign with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NWSL College Draft. She started all 22 games and played 1,926 minutes for the Reign during the 2013 NWSL season. The Penn State product had three goals and led Seattle with five assists during her rookie season. Christine is an Annapolis, MD native and played her youth club soccer with Freestate Soccer Alliance. She has a long list of national level accolades, including runner-up for the 2013 MAC Herman Trophy
“Christine is a very important addition to the team that we are building for the 2014 season,” Spirit coach and GM Mark Parsons said. “Christine brings great technical quality and creativity with tremendous amounts of fight and desire. She was one of the best young players in the league last season and it’s very exciting knowing she will be in a Spirit jersey next year.”
