Spirit and Mystics Join Forces to Launch D.C.’s First-Ever Women’s Sports Week Sept. 20-26

Washington, D.C. (08/06/2026) – The Washington Spirit and Washington Mystics have joined forces to launch a weeklong crossover called Capital Queens, presented by Giant, the teams announced today.

The collaboration between two of Washington, D.C.’s, longest women’s professional sports teams will bring together players, fans, transit corridors, local businesses, and the broader DMV community. From Sept. 20-26, fans can experience community-driven experiences, original content, and exclusive merchandise. The Spirit and Mystics have also partnered with D.C.-based sports lifestyle brand Round21 and local artist Clarke Imani to create special edition Capital Queens apparel, which will be available at both team’s arena stores.

“D.C. is one of the most passionate women’s sports markets in the country, and the Spirit and Mystics are proud to be at the forefront of that story,” said Kim Stone, Washington Spirit Chief Executive Officer. “Capital Queens lets us give this city something unique and never before seen, a full week built around women’s sports, for women’s sports fans. Our two championship organizations have always shared a special bond with the DMV community, and this collaboration is our way of giving that community a week to come together and celebrate what makes it so great. Fans are going to love what we’ve built together.”

On Sunday, Sept. 20, both teams will host a Capital Queens Watch Party, presented by Giant, as the Mystics take on the Fever in Indiana and the Spirit take on the Stars in Chicago. The watch party will take place at Hook Hall [3400 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC 20010] at 3 p.m. Fans will be able to watch both matchups, utilizing split-screen viewing from the venue, while enjoying DJs, food and drink specials, and giveaways.

“Washington, D.C., has always been the Capital of Women’s Sports,” said Alycen McAuley, Washington Mystics Chief Business Officer. “From the Washington Metros, one of the nation’s first professional women’s basketball teams, to championship-winning high school and collegiate programs, to the Mystics bringing the District its first WNBA championship in 2019, our city has a long history of leading the way. Setting a WNBA attendance record in 2024 and a PWHL attendance record in 2026 only reinforces that legacy. We’re proud to partner with another championship women’s team here in the District – the Washington Spirit – to celebrate the athletes, fans, and community that make Washington the ultimate home of women’s sports.”

“At Giant Food, we believe in the power of sports to unite communities, inspire future generations, and create opportunities for everyone to feel seen and celebrated,” said Felis Andrade, Director of External Communications & Community Relations at Giant Food. “We’re honored to partner with both the Washington Mystics and the Washington Spirit to launch Capital Queens and celebrate the athletes, fans, and neighborhoods that continue to make the DMV a leader in women’s sports. This partnership reflects Giant Food’s ongoing commitment to strengthening our communities and creating meaningful experiences that bring people together while recognizing the incredible impact of women’s sports across our region.”

Additionally, the Spirit and Mystics have created their first ever ticket package partnership, which features a game ticket to the Thursday, Sept. 24, matchup between the Mystics and the Chicago Sky at Capital One Arena, and the Spirit’s Saturday, Sept. 26, match against Angel City FC at Audi Field. Fans who purchase the special ticket offer will receive an exclusive Spirit x Mystics hat, with a design combining elements from both team’s brand identities, popular uniform designs, and iconic D.C. symbols.
