The team will celebrate Hispanic Heritage and honor Veterans at Saturday’s match at Audi Field.
Washington, D.C. (09/15/2022) – The Washington Spirit has announced the club’s featured highlights for Saturday night’s match against northeast rival NJ/NY Gotham FC. Hispanic Heritage tributes include honorary captains Daniela R. Fernandez from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, David Diaz from the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Under Secretary of the Air Force Gina Ortiz Jones.
In recognition of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, the Air Force’s 1st Helicopter Squadron will perform a ceremonial flyover prior to kickoff. The formation will be commanded by Maj. Nicole Handy and Capt. Madelyn Spurlock.
The colors will be presented by the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Honor Guard. Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is home to both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force units supporting the National Capital Region. In addition, the national anthem will be performed by Air Force Master Sergeant Hilary Grobe, an alto vocalist with the Air Force Band. Following the national anthem there will be an opportunity to allow for all veterans to be honored.
As fans arrive at Gate A, they will receive a pair of Washington Spirit-branded sunglasses as part of a special giveaway. Veterans of the United States Armed Forces will also receive a 15% discount on all merchandise at the Spirit Shop at Audi Field on Saturday. The Spirit will also be celebrating its Alliance Partners at Saturday night’s match.

The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. EST kickoff and will be available for streaming on Twitch. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Fans looking to attend the game can purchase tickets at www.washingtonspirit.com/tickets.
