Boyds, Md., (9/26/19) – The Spirit will return home to Maureen Hendricks for the first time in over a month for their final home game of the 2019 NWSL regular season.
Washington earned a point on Sept. 25 after they drew the Dash in Houston, and they’ll look to gain three more points in a matchup with the North Carolina Courage on Saturday.
Here are some stats to keep in mind as the Spirit take on North Carolina this weekend.
In the past week the Spirit have traveled to Chicago, Houston and now back to Maryland for their Sept. 28 game against North Carolina. Washington’s past week has been a test of endurance as the Spirit will be playing their third game in eight days.
Since her return from injury, Pugh has been heavily involved in challenging opposing defenses. Whether attacking head on or making runs behind the defense, Pugh has produced 12 crosses, 5 key passes, 1 goal
and 1 assist in that stretch.
Washington has allowed the third-least amount of goals in the NWSL this season at 24. The combination of a strong defense and the ever-reliable Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe has accounted for 8 clean sheets on the year.
Sam Staab, Ashley Hatch, Andi Sullivan and goalkeeper Bledsoe have all played in each of 21 games for the Spirit this year. Combined, the trio has logged 7,504 minutes so far this season.
North Carolina has the most creative attack in the league as they lead the NWSL in both goals and assists. The Spirit defense held the Courage to just one goal in their last meeting, despite playing short-handed after Paige Nielsen was given a red card in the 24’ minute.
The Courage lead the league in shots, and they lead second place by 100 shots. They also lead the league in shots on target with 153. Bledsoe is second in the league in total saves with 73, and has made 9 saves against the Courage this season.
