Boyds, Md. (5/23/2019) – Washington Spirit forward Mallory Pugh appeared in The Players Tribune to talk about her family, her hometown, growing up a soccer prodigy and her unorthodox path to get to the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.
In The Players Tribune, a website dedicated to letting athletes write for themselves, Pugh writes about her love for soccer even when she could barely walk, to her repeatedly injuring herself from being, “the reckless child who can’t stop playing,” to going to UCLA for only three scrimmages before turning pro and joining the Spirit.
Pugh goes on to talk about her mindset for France, saying: “I’m hoping to get into one of those Mia Hamm Zones,” and that her mentality is going to be, “where you can throw anything you want at me, whenever you want to, and it’s not going to matter. If I’m in my zone, then you’re not going to be able to touch me,” before ending in a simple, “I’ll see y’all in France.”
Pugh’s full story can be read here.
Pugh, along with fellow Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle, will start World Cup play with the UWSNT on June 11th with a matchup against Thailand at 3 p.m. ET.
