First and foremost, we want to wish you and your loved ones the best. We ask you to join us in following all directions from our state and local authorities. Please stay safe. We care about you the same way you care about us, and everyone with the Spirit thanks you for your continued support.
Next, we want to share with you information about our preseason camp, NWSL ticket policy and point you to relevant links to information from local authorities. We are doing this via the Q&A section below. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at owner@washspirit.com or our CEO Larry Best at ceo@washspirit.com.
Thank you.
Spirit Ownership, Front Office, Players, and Staff
What is the team doing to keep the players safe?
We are working closely with the NWSL to observe and obey all league and governmental guidelines regarding player safety. As a result, we are not holding team events of any kind and players are screened daily by the medical staff in accordance with NWSL protocols.
Why is the team still in Florida?
As you know, the team is in Florida for preseason training camp. The team has remained in Florida because our medical staff believes being in the controlled, isolated, and secure environment at Sandpiper Bay is the best situation for them right now. The staff at Sandpiper Bay is dedicated to keeping conditions safe and has been extremely proactive in keeping our players healthy.
When is the team returning?
The team is scheduled to return to Maryland on March 25th. There are currently no travel restrictions that would prevent their timely return home. We will continuously review with our medical staff, players, and coaching staff the best solution for their health and safety.
How are the players doing?
Our players are healthy and safe and anxious to resume training. They are in good spirits and have been afforded all the time they need to connect outside about the health and disposition of friends and family they are concerned about.
What is the status of the national team players?
Andi Sullivan joined the team in Florida on the evening of March 15th to begin administrative integration with the coaching staff and her teammates. Rose Lavelle will join the team when they return to Maryland on March 25th.
Is the team training?
Spirit players and staff are following the NWSL moratorium on team training through March 22.
When will we know if the games are postponed?
Any information about game postponement will come directly from the NWSL. Discussions on schedule options are ongoing and will be shared as soon as possible.
What’s the status of my tickets?
In accordance with NWSL policy, if regular season games are rescheduled, those tickets will be valid for the rescheduled date so long as spectators are allowed to attend the match.
