Deborah Abiodun and Kate Wiesner placed on 45-day injury list
Washington, D.C. (09/04/2026) – The Washington Spirit has placed midfielder Deborah Abiodun and defender Kate Wiesner on the 45-day injury (D45) list, the club announced today. Abiodun is dealing with a hip injury and Wiesner suffered a fractured ankle in last weekend’s home win over Bay FC.
Wiesner underwent successful surgery earlier this week; both she and Abiodun will continue to work with the Spirit’s medical and performance staff as they rehab from their respective injuries. Abiodun has appeared in nine total matches for the Spirit so far this season, making four starts and playing 320 minutes. Wiesner has 20 total appearances and 15 starts across all competitions in 2026 with two assists from the back line and over 1,200 minutes of playing time.
The Spirit will take the pitch at Audi Field next on Sunday, September 13 when the side hosts expansion side Boston Legacy FC. Kicking off at 1 p.m. EDT, the match will be Washington’s annual Spirit & Paws Day as the club welcomes fans and their furry friends. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
