Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman and Head Coach Jonátan Giraldez have both been nominated for the ninth edition of The Best FIFA Football Awardswhich recognize the best players, coaches, and goals in global soccer at both the club and national-team levels from August 21, 2023 to August 10, 2024. Fans can vote for each category here.

 

Trinity Rodman

Rodman, who was also recently named a finalist for the U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year Award, is nominated for the Best FIFA Women’s Player as well as the inaugural Marta Award for the best goal in women’s soccer. During the consideration period, she scored six goals for the Spirit and recorded four assists. She was also named to the NWSL Best XI Second Team in 2023, and in 2024 made the Best XI First Team and was named a finalist for league MVP. Fans can vote for Rodman here.

As a member of the USWNT, Rodman won the Concacaf W Gold Cup, the SheBelieves Cup, and the Paris Olympics in 2024. On her way to winning Olympic gold, she scored twice in the group stage then scored the match-winner in extra time of the quarterfinals to beat Japan and advance to the medal rounds. Jonatan Giráldez

For the second consecutive year, Giráldez is nominated for the Best FIFA Women’s Coach for his incredible work with FC Barcelona Femení and the Washington Spirit. Fans can vote for him here.

As the head coach of FC Barcelona Femení, Giráldez led the team to an undefeated Liga F season (with a +127 goal differential) and 45 total victories on the way to winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League, the Spanish Liga F, the Spanish Copa de la Reina, and the Supercopa de España Femenina. He joined the Spirit in June 2024, going undefeated in his first five regular season matches with a +10 goal differential then leading the team to the No. 2 seed in the NWSL Playoffs and a trip to the NWSL Championship. This nomination is his second consecutive for this award. He has previously been named the IFFHS World’s Best Club Coach, a finalist for the UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year, and a finalist for the inaugural Ballon d’Or for Women’s Team Coach of the Year.
