Rodman led U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) to its first Olympic gold in 12 years
Washington, D.C. (12/03/2024) – Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman has been named a finalist for U.S. Soccer’s Female Player of the Year award, the federation announced today. The forward was previously named U.S. Soccer’s Young Female Player of the Year in 2021 following her rookie campaign with the Spirit.
Rodman appeared in 18 matches for the United States in 2024, contributing to seven goals as the side earned three trophies and a record of 14-1-3. Rodman made her biggest impact on the international stage yet at this summer’s 2024 Olympic Games in France. Starting all six matches of the tournament, the star forward tallied three goals and an assist for the United States, none bigger than her game-winning score in extra time of the quarterfinal round against Japan. Fan voting for this year’s U.S. Soccer awards will open at 10 a.m. EST on Wednesday, December 4 and account for 15 percent of the total vote.
At the club level, Rodman put together her best professional season in 2024. Scoring a team-leading eight goals and adding six assists, the star led the Spirit to its second NWSL Championship appearance in four years. In just her fourth season with the team, Rodman set a new club assists record and became the youngest player in league history to reach 50 goal contributions across all competitions. For her stellar play, Rodman was named to the NWSL’s 2024 Best XI First Team.
The Spirit will take the field in 2025 looking to build on this year’s second place finish in the NWSL. Behind stellar performances from the side’s star players and rookie phenoms, the Spirit set new single season club marks on the pitch in wins (18, also a league record), points (56) and goals (51) in front of record attendances at Audi Field in 2024.
