2023 Matchday Information

Washington, D.C. (07/24/2023) – The Washington Spirit is returning home for the first game at Audi Field in nearly four weeks to take on East Division rival, Gotham FC on Friday night in the team’s fifth 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup game of the season.

Back by popular demand, $99 All-Inclusive Unlimited Food & Drink tickets are back. These tickets come with a club level seating ticket package that includes a premium buffet as well as bottomless beer, wine, and fountain drinks. This deal gives fans access to the air-conditioned EagleBank Club and preferred seating options.

The Spirit will also offer a $20 Ticket + A Drink special, featuring a special “Spirit Spritz.” Drinks can be redeemed at Heineken Hall on the East Concourse. The drink special will be active until 7:30 p.m.

Additionally, for the first time ever, fans can purchase individual tickets in the field-side cabanas. For just $80, fans will be granted access to the most unique experience in Audi Field. Whether you want a field side drink or want to stand field level, these seats have it all!

Fans should stick around following the match as the Spirit will honor Gotham defender Ali Krieger in her final game in the DMV area. A native of Dumfries, VA, Krieger played for the Spirit from 2013 to 2016 logging 62 appearances. She announced her retirement earlier this year and will retire one of the most decorated players in American professional women’s soccer.

The Spirit are partnering with CVS Health and Leveling the Playing Field to collect sports bras at Friday’s match. Fans will find marked donation bins throughout the stadium upon entry. Fans wishing to participate should donate only new sports bras. The Spirit continues this initiative following a successful 2022 campaign as a part of the Nationwide Community Impact Program. The Spirit, CVS Health and LPF aim to promote women’s and girls’ participation in sports by working to eliminate a common reason for discontinued participation: a lack of available equipment. Donations will be accepted at the July 28, August 27, and September 30 matches at Audi Field.

New this week, fans will notice updated photo opportunities at Spiritville on the East Concourse. Flags from Canada, Ireland, Panama, and the United States will be available for photos as well as a CVS Photo Booth. These flags represent the four countries Spirit players are representing at this summer’s World Cup.

Fans can also watch a special performance from Panama Rex and Band who will be providing “jam band” tunes on the Spirit Stage from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m.

Fans who purchase tickets with access to the EagleBank Club will be met with a number of exciting amenities, including entertainment from DJ Kidd Fresh and host Tara Ashleigh Austin.

On field before kickoff, Metro Police Department Sgt. Tamika Hampton will sing the National Anthem with Anna Meadows accompanying with ASL translation. The Metro Police Department will also serve as the Color Guard.

Challenge Cup

This year, in UKG’s first year as the tournament’s title sponsor, the prize pool has been raised to a record-breaking $1 million purse, after the bonus polo was increased tenfold previously in 2022. The NWSL partnered with UKG in its mission to not only bring pay equity to the world of professional sports, but also to shed light on the need for continued commitment by employers across every industry to focus on achieving equity of opportunity and equity of pay for women and other underrepresented groups.

The 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup began on April 19th and features Wednesday night matches throughout the season, concluding with the semifinals on Wednesday, September 6th and the final on Saturday, September 9th. The League’s 12 teams are split into three divisions – East, Central, and West – and each team plays in a six-game double round-robin with its group. Following the group stage, four teams advance to the semifinals on September 6th – the top team from each group, as well as the highest placing runner-up across the three divisions.
