- The last time the Spirit took on the Courage, it scored twice late in the second half to tie the match but conceded a stoppage time game-winner as North Carolina won 3-2 on Saturday, June 11.
- This will be the fifth time the Spirit has played the Courage in four months and the third time in Cary. The two sides played three times in the Challenge Cup (once in DC, twice in Cary) and faced off once so far in the regular season (June 11 at Segra Field). Full season history:

- The Spirit will have its USWNT players back for the first time since June 17’s match against Racing Louisville FC. Forward Ashley Hatch, goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury, defender Kelley O’Hara, forward Trinity Rodman, midfielder Ashley Sanchez, defender Emily Sonnett and midfielder Andi Sullivan all helped the U.S. win the Concacaf Women’s Championship earlier this month and secure a spot in next year’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.
- With the return of the Spirit’s seven USWNT players, the six national team replacement (NTR) players signed in June are no longer on the side’s active roster. Despite the changes, four NTRs are still training with the team (midfielders Brenna Connell, Katie Murray and Marissa Sheva and forward Audrey Harding).
- North Carolina will be without its two Brazilian stars as Debinha and Kerolin continue to compete with their home country in the Copa América Femenina in Colombia.
- The Courage will also be without defenders Merritt Mathias and Jaelene Daniels on Friday night.
- Former Spirit player Havana Solaun is currently a midfielder for the Courage.
