Washington, D.C. (07/16/2022) – The Washington Spirit will take on the Orlando Pride at Audi Field Sunday evening in the home side’s first match in DC in over two months.
Washington will once again be without seven of its regular starters as the USWNT prepares for the Concacaf Women’s Championship final against Canada. Ashley Hatch returned from international competition in Mexico this week due to a leg muscle strain and will still be unavailable for Sunday’s match. Carrying its 13-match winless streak into tomorrow’s matchup with the Pride, the Spirit will look to improve upon its single goal scored in the past two matches. In last week’s shutout loss to the Current, Washington was able to manage 13 shots, seven of which were from forward Tara McKeown, but unable to find the back of the net. Orlando will be fielding a largely new-look Pride side on Sunday after multiple major roster changes since the last meeting between these two sides. Following Sunday’s match the Spirit will not return to Audi Field for almost another two months as it prepares for three road matches and one final contest at Segra Field.
The match will be broadcast on Paramount+ for fans in the United States and on Twitch for international viewers. Following the match, the Spirit will host a press conference with head coach Kris Ward and two players. Fans can stream the postgame presser via the Washington Spirit Twitch channel. The NWSL’s seven-day in-season break for players will begin the day after the match on Monday, July 18 with players returning the following Monday, July 25.
