Washington, D.C., (05/10/2022) – Washington Spirit forwards Ashley Hatch, Ashley Sanchez and Trinity Rodman were named to the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup All-Tournament Team, the league announced today.
Ashley Hatch led the tournament in goals scored with six, including four against eventual champion North Carolina. The defending Golden Boot also tallied 31 shots, 13 of which were on target, in eight tournament competitions to lead the Spirit to the final. Hatch also finished second in voting for the Tournament MVP award.
Ashley Sanchez scored twice and assisted once while leading the league in total shots in the preseason tournament with 23 and a second-best 12 shots on target. Sanchez finished third in Tournament MVP voting, just behind teammate Ashley Hatch.
Trinity Rodman tallied four goals and three assists, trailing only Kansas City’s Elyse Bennett for the lead in the latter. The reigning rookie of the year also finished second in the league in total shots with 22, behind only teammate Ashley Sanchez.
Hatch and Rodman were named to the 2021 NWSL Best XI with Hatch taking home the Golden Boot behind a league-leading ten goals and Rodman earning Rookie of the Year honors.
After finishing as the runner-up in the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup, the Washington Spirit will host Angel City FC in the team’s second regular season match on Sunday, May 15 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Following the match, Washington will head west to take on Portland Thorns FC and OL Reign on Wednesday, May 18 and Sunday, May 22, respectively.
