Leesburg, VA., (06/30/21) – The Washington Spirit will play their eighth league fixture of the 2021 regular season against the Chicago Red Stars on Friday, July 2, at 7:30 pm ET at Segra Field. The game will air on Twitch in the U.S. and internationally.
We broke down some interesting stats you’ll want to know ahead of the match.
1-Number of Home Games for the Spirit this Season
Friday’s match will be Washington’s second home game of the season and the first to be played at Segra Field. The team began the campaign with four consecutive away fixtures and six of seven on the road. The Spirit have taken 11 points from six away outings, holding a 3–2–1 record. Three consecutive home contests lie ahead after traveling to the West Coast and Midwest for the past month.
2-Comeback Victories for Washington this Season
After dropping two points against the Red Stars on June 19 — the Spirit conceded in the 92’ — Washington netted in the 78th and 95th this past weekend against Kansas City to steal a win and three points at Legends Field. It marked the second time D.C. has come from behind for the victory. The goals were the sixth and seventh the Spirit have scored in the second half this season, compared to one in the first 45.
3-Away Wins
Despite logging thousands of miles in the air flying from the nation’s capital to the Pacific Northwest and everywhere in between, the Spirit have performed admirably on the road. Starting the season with four away matches is no easy task, and it’s even harder to return with a winning record, but the Spirit managed to take 11 points and win three of six games as the visitors in the early stages of the campaign.
7-Combined Goals Scored by Hatch, Rodman and Sanchez
With Trinity Rodman (two goals in 2021) and Ashley Sanchez (two goals in 2021) both adding their names to the scoresheet against Kansas City, Washington’s attacking unit, which includes Ashley Hatch (three goals in 2021), has scored a combined seven times this season, good for third-best among attacking trios in the NWSL. Only North Carolina (nine) and Orlando (nine) boast higher goal margins than Washington.
