Boyds, Md. (5/10/19) – The Washington Spirit will be traveling to Yurcak Field in Piscataway, Nj. this weekend for their fourth match of the young NWSL season against Sky Blue FC.

This weekend’s match is the Spirit’s second against Sky Blue this year. In their first contest, the Spirit bested their New Jersey counterparts by a score of 2-0, with defenders Sam Staab and Megan Crosson contributing on the offensive end, scoring in the 59th and 90+2 minutes respectively.

Overall, the Spirit controlled the flow of the game with strong defensive play from Paige Nielsen, Tori Huster, Staab and McGrady at the back and another strong performance from Aubrey Bledsoe between the sticks. The Spirit will be looking for a repeat performance away from home, as three points from the match could potentially send the Spirit as high as third on the table.

On the other sideline, Sky Blue will be looking to collect three points for the first time this year as they have not won a game yet this year. With two losses and two draws, Sky Blue sits just above the Orlando Pride in eighth place on the NWSL table through four games.

In their last game, Sky Blue split the points with the defending champion North Carolina Courage, holding the usually explosive Courage offense goalless behind a strong performance from NWSL saves-leader Kailen Sheridan. Sky Blue will aim to continue that momentum into their game with the Spirit.

Kickoff in Piscataway is set for 3 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field. The game will be broadcasted live on NBC Sports Washington, and streaming will be available on Monumental Sports Network.
