Boyds, Md. (March 1, 2019) – Newly-signed Washington Spirit player Amy Harrison helped the Australian Women’s National Team defeat New Zealand in their opening match of the 2019 Cup of Nations. The Matildas came away with a 2-0 victory, helping newly appointed manager Ante Milicic earn his first win in his first match in charge.

Harrison came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute and helped seal the victory for Australia, who held a 1-0 lead at the time. In the 75th minute, Harrison intercepted a ball at midfield and threaded the game-clinching assist to Hayley Raso. Australia dominated possession and controlled the tempo throughout the match, keeping their current 25-year win streak against New Zealand alive.

Australia will play their second match of the tournament in Brisbane against Korea Republic on March 3, where they hope to claim sole possession of first place in the table. The Matildas will conclude the tournament campaign on March 6 in Melbourne against Argentina.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Australia will compete in one final friendly match against the United States on April 4 before heading to France for the World Cup to face Brazil, Italy, and Jamaica in Group C.
