Boyds, MD (March 7, 2018) – Washington Spirit rookie defender Rebecca Quinn played the full 90 minutes for the Canada Women’s National Team during three consecutive clean sheet wins in the Algarve Cup over Russia, Korea Republic and Japan.
Quinn earned international caps No. 34-37 at the Algarve Cup, playing every minute of action for Canada. In addition to their three straight shutout victories, the Canadians opened the tournament with a 1-3 loss against Sweden on February 28.
After the initial setback against Sweden, Canada downed Russia 1-0, Korea Republic 3-0 and Japan 2-0 to close out the Algarve Cup with 270 straight minutes of shutout soccer during the three wins. Quinn, 22, has established herself as a mainstay on the Canadian back line, with 19 starts at the senior level. She has scored three goals and assisted two others so far in her young career with the senior national team.
The Duke University product, selected No. 3 overall in the 2018 NWSL College Draft by the Spirit, will report to training camp later this week ahead of her rookie professional season.
The Spirit will kick-off its preseason slate this Saturday, March 10 for a friendly against 22-time women’s college champion University of North Carolina. The game will be played at Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va. [TICKETS]
