CHICAGO (July 19, 2016) – Washington Spirit midfielder Estefania Banini was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 13 of the 2016 NWSL season.

Banini, 26, tallied two goals to help the Spirit earn a 3-2 victory over FC Kansas City at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo. It was the team’s third win on the road this season.

The Mendoza, Argentina native recorded her first goal of the game in the 48th minute when she settled a free kick from Spirit’s Christine Nairn inside the box and fired a shot far post past FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart. (Watch – Goal)

The Argentinian international scored again in the 83rd minute when she volleyed a corner kick deflection outside the 18 past Barnhart into the upper left corner of the net. (Watch – Goal)

Banini played all 90 minutes in the game and finished with three shots on goal.

It is the first time Banini has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week, and is the ninth time a member of the Spirit has won the award.

The Washington Spirit return to action Saturday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. ET against Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J.
