IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
The Washington Spirit opened its preseason schedule with a convincing 4-0 victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Spirit controlled a majority of possession throughout the match forcing Virginia Tech to get most of its attack on the counter or from set pieces. Estefi Banini opened the scoring in the 13th minute after receiving the ball inside the box, faking out the Hokie defender and slipping the ball past the keeper. Spirit closed the half with a 1-0 lead. Amanda Da Costa’s high work rate resulted in a goal in the 51st minute to give the Spirit a 2-0 lead over the Hokies. Ten minutes later Da Costa slotted a ball into Christine Nairn who blasted it into the net from close range to further increase the Spirit lead to 3-0. Laura Del Rio tallied the final goal of the match in the 67th minute with a cheeky chip from the top of the box which snuck in the upper 90.
