The W-League announced its Team of the Week on Thursday, honoring the top players in league matches over the previous weekend. Spirit Reserves defender Jennifer Skogerboe earned a spot on the elite eleven for standout performances against both Long Island and North Jersey, contributing to a defensive effort that shut out both opponents.
A product of the University of Connecticut, Skogerboe anchored a Spirit Reserves back line that held two quality W-league offenses in check. In addition to blanking Long Island and North Jersey, Skogerboe helped limit the teams to a combined eight shots.
Skogerboe’s prowess was not only limited to her defensive skills but also factored into the Washington offense. With Long Island seeking a late equalizer, Skogerboe punished the Rough Riders with a cannon shot into the lower right of the goal to secure the 2-0 Washington victory in the 90th minute.
The Spirit Reserves remain on the road this weekend for a two-game swing through New York. On Saturday, Washington faces the Long Island Rough Riders in South Huntington, New York, at 5 p.m. The following afternoon, the Spirit Reserves take on the New York Magic at 4 p.m.
