(Boyds, Md. – June 13, 2013) – The Washington Spirit have called up Reserves defender Danielle Hubka to fill the roster spot of Ali Krieger, who will be absent for Saturday’s match against the Western New York Flash to play for the U.S. Women’s National Team in an international friendly against South Korea that same night.
Hubka, a recent graduate of the University of Maryland, has played a vital role on a Spirit Reserves back line which has posted three consecutive shutouts in W-League action. She was a two-way player for the Terps from 2009-2012, scoring 17 goals and contributing eight assists.
She attended high school in Ohio where she was a one-time All-American selection, and was also a member of U.S. U-18 National Team and U-20 player pool. Hubka is one of just two Spirit Reserves players to have played every minute of every game so far this season, with goalkeeper DiDi Haracic being the other.
The two other new faces joining the Spirit Saturday night will be U.S. U-23 National Team defender Toni Pressley and Mexican National Team midfielder Teresa “Lupita” Worbis. Pressley and Worbis have signed on with Washington for the remainder of the season, and will make their NWSL debuts against the Flash.
