The Washington Spirit announced the signing of Jodie Taylor for the 2014 NWSL season, with a club option for 2015 NWSL season. The Spirit originally acquired her discovery rights in a trade with Seattle Reign FC in October of this year.
“I am extremely excited to sign for the Washington Spirit and play in the NWSL.” Jodie Taylor said. “Returning to the states has been a long term goal of mine and I cant wait for the 2014 season.”
Taylor will join the Spirit squad in March for preseason and will be one of many new signings as the Spirit roster evolves for the 2014 season. Most recently, Taylor was in Australia playing for Sydney FC where she continued to show the goal scoring ability that led her to great success in England and Sweden.
“I am very excited to welcome Jodie to the Spirit and bring someone of her quality to the NWSL,” Spirit head coach and general manager Mark Parsons said. “Jodie is is a natural finisher and one of the best at what she does.”
In addition to being the newest signing for the Spirit’s 2014 season, Taylor was also called up to the senior English National Team, along with Boston Breakers’ Lianne Sanderson for training camp in January by newly appointed manager, Mark Sampson.
