21-player roster features two goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders, seven forwards

 

Washington, D.C. (12/10/2024) – The Washington Spirit has released its updated offseason roster, the club announced today. The current roster features two goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders and seven forwards. 

“We’re thrilled to build off the success of this season as we prepare for 2025,” said President of Soccer Operations/General Manager Mark Krikorian. “With much of our roster remaining intact and an established coaching staff heading into the new year, the growth potential for this team next season is immense.” 

As the NWSL and NWSL Players Association’s new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) takes effect, the contracts of all players remaining with the Spirit heading into 2025 will now become fully guaranteed.

Seven players that finished the 2024 season on the Spirit roster have entered full free agency this offseason. The contracts of goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart, defender Annaïg Butel, defender Jenna Butler and goalkeeper Kaylie Collins are set to expire on December 31 and all four players are currently free agents. Defender Anna Heilferty, forward Civana Kuhlmann and forward Lena Silano also enter free agency as their current contracts contain declined 2025 options. Defender Waniya Hudson remains on loan with Dallas Trinity FC and her contract with the Spirit will also expire on December 31.

Defenders (6): Gabby Carle, Casey Krueger, Tara McKeown, Paige Metayer, Esme Morgan (INTL), Kate Wiesner 

Midfielders (6): Croix Bethune (SEI), Courtney Brown, Hal Hershfelt, Leicy Santos (INTL), Heather Stainbrook, Andi Sullivan (SEI) 

Forwards (7): Ashley Hatch, Rosemonde Kouassi (INTL), Makenna Morris, Brittany Ratcliffe, Chloe Ricketts (U18), Trinity Rodman, Ouleye Sarr (INTL, SEI) 

Key: INTL (international), U18 (under-18), SEI (season-ending injury), all players currently on SEI are eligible to return to the active roster in 2025 

The Spirit will take the field in 2025 looking to build on this year’s second place finish in the NWSL. Behind stellar performances from the side’s star players and rookie phenoms, the Spirit set new single season club marks on the pitch in wins (18, also a league record), points (56) and goals (51) in front of record attendances at Audi Field in 2024.
