The Spirit and Casey Trees will plant one tree for every Washington goal scored at Audi Field in 2023
Washington, D.C. (07/27/2023) – The Washington Spirit has renewed its sustainability initiative with community partner Casey Trees, the club announced today. With support from Bud Light this year, the Spirit has committed to donating one new tree to Casey Trees for each goal scored by the Spirit at Audi Field through the end of the 2023 season.
Fans may remember Casey Trees from the Spirit’s Earth Day match on April 22. An important community partner of the Spirit, Casey Trees maintains a 730-acre tree farm in nearby Berryville, Virginia, 100 acres of which is dedicated to sustainable tree growing practices. In addition to growing trees in the DMV, Casey Trees provides school programming to DC youth to promote environmental literacy.
“We’re very excited to have Bud Light’s support in our work with Casey Trees,” said Head of Corporate Partnerships Chris Hudgins. “It is important to our club that we work together with corporate and community partners that share our values. Casey Trees’ commitment to the environment and sustainable practices as well as Bud Light’s interest in backing such organizations are qualities we are eager to align ourselves with.”
Casey Trees, founded in 2001, is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit committed to restoring, enhancing and protecting the tree canopy of the nation’s capital. To fulfill this mission, the organization plants trees, engages thousands of volunteers of all ages in tree planting and care, provides year-round continuing education courses, monitors the city’s tree canopy, develops interactive online tree tools and works with elected officials, developers and community groups to protect and care for existing trees and to encourage the addition of new ones.
After each Spirit goal at Audi Field for the remainder of the 2023 season, information on how to donate to Casey Trees will be displayed on the big screens in the stadium. Fans can help support the organization with donations as big or small as they’d like and be a part of tree canopy restoration in DC. At the end of the season, fans who donated will have the opportunity to sign up for the Spirit’s official tree planting event in DC.
