Washington, D.C. (02/17/22) – The Washington Spirit have completed a trade with NJ/NY Gotham FC that sends forward Kumi Yokoyama to Gotham FC. In return, the Spirit have acquired Gotham’s natural fourth round draft pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft.

“Kumi came to us and we had a conversation about doing what was best for their future. Kumi has been an incredible human to have in our club and they will be greatly missed,” Head Coach Kris Ward said. “While it is always tough to part with a player, we understood that Kumi wanted to do what was best for their career moving forward and we honored that.”

Yokoyama signed with the club in December of 2019. The Japanese international appeared in 20 games for the Spirit, starting 13 of those matches. Yokoyama scored one of their two goals in a Spirit uniform against then Sky Blue FC in the 2020 Fall Series which was awarded the 2020 Spirit Goal of the Year.
