Leesburg, VA., (08/20/2021) — The Washington Spirit are set to play their fifteenth match of the 2021 regular season against the Orlando Pride on Sunday, August 22 at 4 p.m. ET at Audi Field. The game can be streamed on CBS Sports Network for domestic fans and on Twitch for international fans.

Here are some interesting stats to take note of ahead of Sunday’s outing:

1 – Teams Between the Spirit and Pride in the NWSL Standings

With only nine games remaining this regular season, Washington sits only two places behind Orlando on the table. The Pride currently ranks 4th in the entire league, while the Spirit remains in the 6th spot with a 5-5-4 record and 19 points. Alternatively, Orlando’s overall record this season amounts to 5-4-6, as the Florida team has 21 points. A three-point win for Washington could help close the small gap in the standings.

2 – Draws Against Orlando This Season

The two squads are no strangers to one another, making for a competitive rivalry. Earlier this regular season, the Spirit played the Pride on two separate occasions — both of which have ended in 1-1 draws. The most recent victory between the two teams was during the 2021 Challenge Cup, where Orlando beat the Spirit 1-0 on April 21. In 2020, the Pride and the Spirit did not face each other due to the coronavirus pandemic.

4 – Victories for the Pride When Sydney Leroux Scores

Four out of five wins for the Pride can be attributed to the help of forward Sydney Leroux. The attacker has been an offensive menace for backlines across the league. She currently sits one ahead of the Spirit’s Ashley Hatch for the league lead in goals scored. In fourteen matches, Leroux has found the back of the net seven times. Leroux’s success on the field awarded her a position in the NWSL’s July Team of the Month. She has also started every game for her side, playing a total of 1,208 minutes.

32 – Total Shots on Goal for Ashley Sanchez This Year

No matter where Ashley Sanchez lines up on the pitch, she has been a dominant presence for the Spirit. Her consistency up top translates into an impressive 20 shots on frame in just fourteen league fixtures. The 22-year-old attacker leads the NWSL in the number of shots on goal and stands as the second player with the highest number of total shots at 32. In this regular season, Sanchez has three goals under her belt for Washington.
