Boyds, Md., (10/10/19) – The Washington Spirit will head to Portland on Saturday, Oct. 12 for their final 2019 NWSL game. The Spirit will aim to finish out their season on a three-game win streak.
The Spirit defeated the Thorns 3-1 in May, but Portland evened the series in August with a 3-1 victory over Washington. The team will travel to Providence Park and look to get their first-ever win on the road against Portland.
Here are some of the most important stats to keep an eye on as the Spirit take on Portland this weekend.
Washington has produced 10 shots on target in their last two games, and converted half of those shots into goals. The Spirit’s precise finishing has been key in their two consecutive wins, as their opponents have produced 12 shots on target, but only converted two goals.
Bledsoe leads the NWSL in saves and is also tied for second place in clean sheets with eight. The Spirit goalkeeper has made six saves in two games against Portland this season.
In her last two matches, Nielsen has recorded four interceptions, three tackles, five blocks, and 17 possessions gained. The 24-year-old defender has made 15 clearances and gained seven possessions against Portland this year.
The Thorns have had a lapse defensively, as they have been outscored 8-1 in their last three games. On the other side, the Spirit have outscored their opponents 5-2 in their last three matches, earning seven points.
The Portland Forward and captain of the Canadian Women’s National Team is fourth in the NWSL in goals. The Spirit have held her to just one goal this season, but she’s scored four goals in her last five matches against Washington.
