Boyds, Md. (8/29/2019)The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team continues to raise the standard as they defeated Portugal 4-0 in front of 49,504 fans at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on the second game of their five-game victory tour.

Forward Tobin Heath (4’), midfielder Morgan Brian (18’), forward Carli Lloyd (52’), and midfielder Allie Long (82’) all scored for the U.S. as they demonstrated why they are the back-to-back World Cup Champions. 

Washington Spirit forward Mallory Pugh made her first appearance in over a month when she subbed in for midfielder Lindsey Horan in the 61st minute. Pugh was able to make an impact in the few minutes she got on the pitch, as she created two chances in the 79th and 81st minutes. 

Both opportunities were key passes that made their way towards the talented Utah Royals forward Christen Press. The first opportunity saw Press’ shot sail just left of the net, and the second shot was saved by the goalkeeper. 

Fellow Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle sat out of the friendly due to injury.

During 2019, the USWNT has recorded 15 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws, and 58 goals. The next stop of the victory tour is in Saint Paul, Minnesota on Sept. 3 as the U.S. rematches Portugal in another international friendly match.

The Spirit return to action on Sept. 14 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. as they take on Reign FC, kickoff is set at 7:30 p.m. ET. Spirit fans can stream the game on NBC Sports Washington and Monumental Sports Network.
