Boyds, MD (6/18/19) – The Washington Spirit reserves defeated Frederick FC 4-0 on Sunday to remain unbeaten in the Club Champions League (CCL) Pro23.

After winning its first game last weekend, the Spirit Reserves continued its success with a comfortable victory this Sunday. The two wins have earned the reserves squad six points in the CCL standings

Despite Frederick’s initial defensive pressure, the Spirit Reserves were able to break through in the 12th minute on a goal from Paula Germino-Watnick. The midfielder was back for more later in the first half, finishing off an assist from Jasmine Hamid. To top off the day, Germino-Watnick converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute, earning herself a hattrick while guiding her team to a decisive victory. Forward Leyah Hall Robinson was also able to find the back of the net on a shot from the top of the box in the 20th minute.

While the team found success offensively, goalkeeper Shelby Money made five saves at the other end to keep Frederick off the score sheet. Money’s second straight clean sheet means that the Spirit Reserves have yet to be scored on this season.

Reflecting on the team’s strong start to the CCL season, Germino-Watnick says, “I think we look really good. Last game was our first game, and I was so impressed with how we played, so I’m really optimistic for the rest of the games we have this summer.”

The Spirit Reserves will look to extend their win streak in the next match on June 22 at 11 a.m. against Bethesda at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.
