Boyds, MD (September 2, 2018) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe stopped five of the six shots on target that she faced in Sunday’s season finale, finishing the season with an NWSL record 108 saves.
Her fourth save of the match on Sunday against Sky Blue FC pushed her past Chicago’s Alyssa Naeher for the most in a single season, with a mark of 106 set in 2014.
Bledsoe’s five-save outing was an eventful one, starting with a tough diving save in the fifth minute on a close range shot by Tiernan taken from the center of the box. [WATCH]
In addition to her record-breaking save total, Bledsoe finishes the 2018 season with four clean sheets. The 26-year-old goalkeeper made a career-high 10 saves in her Spirit debut in the club’s regular season opener on March 24 against Seattle Reign FC.
Bledsoe won back-to-back NWSL Save of the Week awards in Weeks 5 and 6, and was named the NWSL Player of the Week for Weeks 11 and 12. Her diving save on the road against the North Carolina Courage on July 11 was voted the No. 1 play on SportsCenter’s Top 10.
