“The fact that I’m going to be around such amazing players, never mind being nominated with them… I respect all these players so much and it’s incredible to be here,” said the 20-year-old, per Attacking Third. Rodman is the youngest Ballon d’Or nominee this year.
Rodman is nominated alongside 19 other women across the world for the prestigious annual award. At 20 years old, Rodman is the youngest player on the shortlist. The Ballon d’Or is awarded by France Football in quarter four of each year to honor the best men’s and women’s footballer of the season. Rodman is the Washington Spirit’s second all-time nominee for the honor as Rose Lavelle came in eighth for the 2019 Ballon d’Or Féminin.
In 2022, the sophomore forward netted eight goals and tallied five assists across 26 total appearances with the Spirit. Rodman also completed her first year with the U.S. Women’s National Team and scored two goals in nine appearances and 325 minutes played in international play.
Fans can secure their tickets to all of the Spirit’s 2023 home matches with a Full 90 membership. Available here, the season ticket membership grants fans access to priority seating, an exclusive gift from the Spirit, access to special events throughout the season and more.
