Our goal is for the Spirit to win championships and reach the highest level of women’s professional soccer, and Anson’s vision for and expertise in the game is a welcome addition to our effort.”
A former U.S. Women’s National Team head coach, Dorrance led the USWNT to its first World Cup championship. Dorrance is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and he has coached some of the most successful players in US women’s soccer history.
“I have admired what the Washington Spirit has been building and have a vested interest in the advancement of the NWSL and women’s soccer more broadly,” said Dorrance. “I have been impressed by their players and the new investment and initiative behind the Spirit. I am proud to have the opportunity to continue to contribute to the growth of the women’s game both through my Tar Heels and now through this engagement with the Spirit.”
