Melbourne, (3/21/20) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe and Sydney FC fell just short of the Australian W-League title early Saturday morning as they were edged out by Melbourne City 1-0 at Aami Park in Melbourne early Friday morning.

The only goal of the game came in the 15th minute from Melbourne City’s Steph Catley. Sydney FC had a number of chances to tie the game up, including a shot that was cleared off the goal-line by Ellie Carpenter in the 49th minute and a close-range strike from Princess Ibini in the 80th. The equalizer never came for the visiting side, despite generating six shots from inside the box.

Bledsoe was active between the sticks, facing seven shots on the day and making six saves. The reigning NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year will finish her 2019-2020 W-League campaign with 63 total saves, 54 in 13 regular season appearances and nine in two playoff appearances. Bledsoe’s 54 regular season saves were good for second-most in the W-League.
