Boyds, Md., (6/23/2019) – On the first matchday of the knockout round at the Women’s World Cup 2019, Spirit midfielder Chloe Logarzo and Spirit defender Amy Harrison participated in the first overtime match of the tournament.
After a Norwegian goal in minute 32, Australia tied the game off a corner won by Logarzo in the 83’. Neither team scored for the remainder of regulation or the duration of the overtime period. Norway won in penalty kicks by a score of 4-1.
Logarzo logged her 4th straight start in the Australian midfield. Logarzo returned to the left wing for the knockout stage after a one-game departure to the center of the Matildas midfield. Logarzo logged a full 120 minutes in the longest match of her international career. Harrison saw her first action of the tournament subbing in during stoppage time of the second overtime period.
Logarzo played a complete game for the Matildas. She won a free kick, assisted on a shot, recorded a shot of her own, and overall was very strong defensively as she slowed or stopped numerous attacks by the Norwegians.
While the loss eliminates Australia from the World Cup, Logarzo and Harrison have nothing to hang their heads about as they both represented their nation at the highest level of play. Logarzo started all four games in the World Cup and netted a goal. Harrison got to play in the final minute of Australia’s run and achieved what she called her dream “I think playing in a World Cup is every footballer’s dreams, something I’ve [dreamed] of since I was a little girl.”
