Boyds, MD (March 28, 2017) – The Washington Spirit has released the club’s updated National Women’s Soccer League preseason roster, as teams around the NWSL cut their training camps down to a maximum of 25 players ahead of the historic fifth season.
Washington’s newly trimmed roster includes 24 players currently in camp, along with two more players who do not yet count toward the 25-player cap – forward Cali Farquharson and goalkeeper Kelsey Wys – who are set to arrive for training in April.
The Spirit has opened the preseason with a pair of wins over two of the top college programs in the nation. Washington defeated Penn State 3-0 to kick off the club’s exhibition slate on March 18, and stormed past 22-time NCAA National Champion University of North Carolina 5-0 on March 25. The latter was played in front of a sellout crowd of 2,000 fans in the Spirit’s first ever match in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Washington continues preseason preparation this week and will play another top college program this Saturday, April 1 against Duke University at 2 p.m. ET. The Spirit will then close out their preseason on April 8 against the University of Virginia at 7 p.m.
Both matches are at the Maryland SoccerPlex’s Maureen Hendricks Field and are free, but fans will need to order tickets online at tickets.washingtonspirit.com.
