Boyds, MD – Saturday May 20, 2017: FC Kansas City defeated the Washington Spirit 1-0 during a regular season National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match at Maureen Hendricks Field, Maryland SoccerPlex.

CHICAGO and Boyds, MD (July 13, 2017) – Washington Spirit midfielder Line Sigvardsen Jensen is among a group of seven players from the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) set to represent their respective national teams at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 when the tournament kicks off July 16.

Players from the league are in line to suit up for their countries in 16 of the 24 group stage matches – including both games on the opening day of the tournament as 16 of Europe’s best will compete to lift one of the most prestigious trophies in women’s international soccer.

Dagny Brynjarsdottir, Portland Thorns FC – Iceland (No. 19)

2017 NWSL stats: Four appearances, 207 minutes (0 goals, 0 assists)

Note: The midfielder enjoyed a breakout first season in the NWSL in 2016 with five goals and one assist – including two game-winning goals – in 17 appearances last season.

Rachel Corsie, Seattle Reign FC – Scotland (No. 21)

2017 NWSL stats: Seven appearances, 496 minutes (0 goals, 1 assist)

Note: The defender has been a pivotal presence in defense for the Seattle Reign FC, including in 2015 and 2016 when she and her teammates posted a 1.05 goals against average in each season.

Amanda Da Costa, Boston Breakers – Portugal (No. 38)

2017 NWSL stats: Eight appearances, 248 minutes (0 goals, 0 assists)

Note: The midfielder has featured for three NWSL teams during her career – the Washington Spirit (2015), Chicago Red Stars (2016) and Boston Breakers (2017).

Emilie Haavi, Boston Breakers – Norway (No. 11)

2017 NWSL stats: Six appearances, 427 minutes (0 goals, 0 assists)

Note: The forward was an unused substitute in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2013 final when Germany topped Norway 1-0 as the Germans won the tournament for the eighth time in nine previous appearances.

Amandine Henry, Portland Thorns FC – France (No. 3)

2017 NWSL stats: 12 appearances, 1,039 minutes (1 goal, 0 assists)

Note: The midfielder scored the first and only goal of her NWSL career May 28 in a 2-0 victory over the Boston Breakers at Providence Park.

2017 NWSL stats: Nine appearances, 701 minutes (4 goals, 1 assist)

Note: The forward comes to the tournament tied for seventh on the all-time NWSL scoring list (as of 7/11/17) with 26 career goals for Sky Blue FC and the Portland Thorns FC.

Format

Sixteen countries were drawn into four groups – with the host Netherlands in Group A; reigning champions Germany in Group B; France (No. 3 in the latest FIFA World Rankings) in Group C; England (No. 5 in the latest FIFA World Rankings) in Group D.

Group A: Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Belgium
Group B: Germany, Sweden, Italy, Russia
Group C: France, Iceland, Austria, Switzerland
Group D: England, Scotland, Spain, Portugal

The group stage will last July 16-27 with the top two teams from each group moving on to the knockout stages – beginning with the quarterfinals July 29 and 30 followed by the semifinals Aug. 3 and the final Aug. 6.
