Krueger returns to active roster for first time since October 2025
Washington, D.C. (10/31/2026) – The Washington Spirit has activated defender Casey Krueger from maternity leave, the club announced today. Krueger returns to the active roster this weekend for the first time since October 2025 after welcoming her daughter Calla earlier this year.
Currently in her third season with the Spirit, Krueger is one of the most decorated players in NWSL history, having been named to the league’s year-end Best XI three times, tied for third-most such selections among defenders. Krueger has also earned Best XI of the Month honors 15 times, tied for the most in league history, and has been a finalist for Defender of the Year twice.
Krueger has appeared in 164 matches in her NWSL career across all competitions and has tallied ten goals and 15 assists from the back line. The defender also has extensive experience with the U.S. Women’s National Team, having appeared in 60 matches and dished out six assists for the senior team. Krueger was a key member of the USWNT’s gold medal-winning team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Spirit will take the pitch at Audi Field next for a Decision Day matchup with Chicago Stars FC on Sunday, November 1. Kicking off at 5 p.m. EST, the match will be Washington’s annual Fan Appreciation Night and feature a special Trinity Rodman-designed hat giveaway. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
