Sandy MacIver, Trinity Rodman, Tara Rudd earn nod for their July performances

Washington, D.C. (08/07/2026)Three Washington Spirit players have been named to the NWSL’s Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime, for their performances during July competition, the league announced today. Following the team’s five-win month, the Spirit is represented on the league-wide team at three positions with goalkeeper Sandy MacIver, forward Trinity Rodman and defender Tara Rudd all earning the nod.

MacIver makes her second appearance on the monthly Best XI, being named the top goalkeeper in the league for her exceptional July. MacIver collected three clean sheets and allowed just three total goals over six matches, leading the Spirit to a 5-1-0 record as the side reached the top of the table for the first time in three years after its July 19 away win over Boston. The Scot has maintained an impressive goals against average (GAA) of just 0.72 with eight shutouts through 18 matches in her first season as Washington’s starting goalkeeper.

In the attacking third, July’s NWSL Player of the Month Trinity Rodman earns her seventh career Best XI of the Month nod. The forward scored five goals, three of which were match-winners, and added a match-winning assist last month. Since returning from the April international break, Rodman has been nearly unstoppable for Washington, tallying eight goals and five assists over a 12-match span.

On the back line, center back Tara Rudd makes her second career appearance on the Best XI of the Month as well as second in three months of play. The reigning NWSL Defender of the Year led a strong Spirit defending third that allowed just three goals over six matches, tallying three shutouts in the process. Rudd is the only Spirit field player to have played every minute of the regular season so far, with 1,620 minutes of action through 18 matches.

The NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Amazon Prime is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

The Spirit will next take the pitch at Audi Field on Saturday, August 8 when it takes on the North Carolina Courage. Kicking off at 6:30 p.m. EDT, the match’s theme will be Spirit Worldwide: Culture Night. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
