González led Spirit to five wins, top of the table in July
Washington, D.C. (08/06/2026) – Washington Spirit Head Coach Adrián González has been named the NWSL Coach of the Month for July, the league announced today. In his first full season as Head Coach of the Spirit, González has now won the honor for the second time in three months.
González led the Spirit to an impressive 5-1-0 record in the month of July, outscoring opponents 8-3 and tallying three clean sheets. With Washington’s win at Boston on July 19, the side moved to first place on the NWSL table for the first time in three years. With its home win over Denver a week later, the Spirit became the first team in the league to reach ten wins for the second time in three seasons, also making González the fastest coach in NWSL history to reach 25 career regular season wins. Including his time as the club’s Interim Head Coach in early 2024, the finalist for 2025 NWSL Coach of the Year has compiled a 31–12-12 record at the helm across all competitions for the Spirit.
The NWSL Coach of the Month is selected by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league consistently and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent. Awards for the month of July are based on performances during regular season matches.
The Spirit will next take the pitch at Audi Field on Saturday, August 8 when it takes on the North Carolina Courage. Kicking off at 6:30 p.m. EDT, the match’s theme will be Spirit Worldwide: Culture Night. Tickets are available at WashingtonSpirit.com/tickets.
