Spirit Nation,
Please join me in wishing Rose Lavelle great success as she joins Manchester City.
I’ve had the privilege of knowing Rose and her wonderful family since 2014 when my daughter played with her in the U-20 World Cup. Rose is a special person and a special player. We all know about the player, but I want to share a little bit about the person.
From the time she arrived in DC, Rose has been a great representative of our club. She supported everything the club asked of her and more. I could not be prouder of her, particularly her work with kids. Last summer, we had a 12-year-old girl and her family spend some time with Rose before one of our matches. She was very nervous about meeting her idol and Rose was terrific. Rose’s amazing personality and kindness left an unforgettable impression. At halftime of the match, the girl and her family came to me and thanked me for the time they shared with Rose. She told me it was the best day of her life – and she meant it. That is the type of experience that the public doesn’t often see, but it gives you a window into who Rose Lavelle is – a world-class player and a first-class person.
I thank Rose for everything she did for our club, and I wish her the best at Manchester City. I know I speak for all NWSL fans when I say I look forward to the day she returns to the league.
