BOYDS, MD (Sept 13, 2016) – The Washington Spirit will host the first semifinal match of the 2016 NWSL Playoffs at the Maryland SoccerPlex on September 30, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET against a to-be-determined opponent. The match will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1 and available for live and on-demand streaming via the FOX Sports GO app and online at FOXSportsGO.com.
It will be the first home playoff game in franchise history and the 3rd semifinal appearance for the suburban Washington, D.C. side in the first four years of NWSL’s existence. The Spirit will find out its opponent this weekend after the final round of regular season games, with possibilities including Chicago Red Stars, Western New York Flash, and Seattle Reign FC. Portland Thorns FC has secured the other semifinal match by assuring at least a 2nd place league finish with a 3-2 win over the Flash Sunday night.
The semifinal winner will advance to the 2016 NWSL Championship which will be held at BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday, October 9 at 5 p.m. ET and will also be televised on FOX Sports 1.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public at tickets.washingtonspirit.com on Monday, September 19 at 10:00 a.m. ET, with a maximum purchase of 9 tickets per order.
