The Washington Spirit are back in the win column and are looking to extend their streak to two games Wednesday when they take on the Boston Breakers. The Spirit return home after defeating the Houston Dash 1-0 Saturday night. With the win, the Spirit broke their three game losing streak, improving their record to 7-7-1, good for third in the NWSL. The Breakers come into the game in last place, sitting at 3-10-1.
The Spirit and Breakers last met on June 11th, in Boston where the Breakers won 2-0 behind goals from Courtney Jones and Katie Schoepfer. Since then, the Breakers have gone 0-2-1, while the Spirit have gone 1-2.
Despite their last performance at the Maryland SoccerPlex, anticipate a strong showing from the Spirit, as they seek to make a run at one of the four playoff spots. The Spirit are 3-3-1 at home this season.
Look for Spirit forward Jodie Taylor to again provide the spark on offense. Her winning goal against the Dash last week was her team leading 7th of the season. Taylor’s 7 goals are good for 3rd in the NWSL.
The Washington Spirit will return home to face the Boston Breakers Wednesday July 2nd at 7 pm at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
