The Washington Spirit have been awarded the No. 2 overall pick in the inaugural National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft, which takes place this Friday, Jan. 18 at the NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.

The draft consists of four rounds with each of NWSL’s eight teams selecting in the same fixed order each round. In addition to the second overall pick, Washington will pick 10th, 18th and 26th in the last three rounds.

In the NWSL’s preseason player allocation, the Spirit received a collection of six midfielders and defenders, and one goalkeeper.

The club received goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, defender Ali Krieger and midfielder Lori Lindsey from the U.S. Soccer Federation; Robyn Gayle and Diana Matheson from the Canadian Soccer Association; and defender Alin Garciamendez and midfielder Teresa Worbis from the Federation of Mexican Football.

The 2013 NWSL College Draft will kick off at 10 a.m. ET. Friday morning and conclude around noon. The draft is not open to the public or media, but fans will be able to follow the proceedings on Twitter @NWSL and through the league’s Facebook page.
