Boyds, MD – Saturday June 03, 2017: Mallory Pugh during a regular season National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match between the Washington Spirit and Houston Dash at Maureen Hendricks Field, Maryland SoccerPlex.

Boyds, MD (June 4, 2017) – Washington Spirit 19-year-old forward Mallory Pugh became the youngest goal scorer in NWSL history on Saturday night when she netted a 69th minute strike featuring a nutmeg of Houston Dash goalkeeper Lydia Williams. Washington’s Havana Solaun and Kristie Mewis each recorded assists on the play, with Mewis providing the final pass to Pugh on the left side of the box after drawing four defenders toward her.

“It’s cool, to be able to score in this league is really special,” Pugh said during postgame interviews.  “You’re playing against some of the top players in the world every game.”

Pugh is no stranger to breaking similar records in major competitions. Only a few months after her 18th birthday, Pugh became the youngest player in U.S. history to score an Olympic goal when she scored in the 59th minute of the U.S. Women’s National Team’s final group game against Venezuela at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
