The Washington Spirit announced today the club has signed former Boston Breakers midfielder Joanna Lohman. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Playing for the Washington Spirit for the 2015 NWSL season really is a dream come true,” Lohman said. “I have always respected the organization and its dedicated fan base. I look forward to continuing my NWSL career in a city that is close to my heart and investing my time, energy and passion both on and off the field to help progress the league.”
Lohman, 32, played two seasons with the Boston Breakers, scoring three goals in 39 total appearances between 2013 and 2014. The Penn State alum was waived by the Breakers at the end of the 2014 season and was then selected off of the NWSL Waiver Wire by the Spirit.
“Jo is going to bring great quality on and off the ball as well as tremendous leadership to the team,” Spirit general manager and head coach Mark Parsons said. “It was a pleasure getting to know Jo back in 2012 with D.C. United Women. It was then when I could see how hard she works in every area of her game to improve. She is a tremendous person and will be an important player for us”
Prior to her NWSL career, the Washington, D.C. native had multiple stints in the D.C. area, playing for the Washington Freedom and D.C. United Women.
