Bethi and Fennecs to take on Central African Republic in 2028 Olympic qualifiers
Washington, D.C. (10/03/2026) – Washington Spirit midfielder Mélissa Bethi has been called up to the Algeria Women’s National Team for the side’s upcoming Olympic qualifying matches, the Algerian Football Federation announced recently. The team will host and visit Central African Republic this month in two qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games.
A native of Firminy in central France’s Loire department, Bethi is of Algerian descent. The midfielder has competed for Algeria at the senior international level since 2023, making her debut in 2024 at 19 years old and having since become a regular starter. Most recently, Bethi helped Algeria to a podium finish at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the process.

Bethi has made an instant impact on the Spirit since joining the side in August, appearing in five matches so far. The midfielder scored the match-winning goal in her second NWSL appearance, helping the Spirit to its first-ever win in Portland in early September.
