The midfielder recently represented Colombia at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
Washington, D.C. (11/25/2024) – Washington Spirit midfielder Leicy Santos has been called up to the Colombian Women’s National Team for the side’s upcoming friendly against Argentina, the Colombian Football Federation announced today. Santos most recently represented Las Cafeteras at this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
Santos has appeared in over 50 international matches for Colombia, scoring 21 goals. She has represented Colombia in two FIFA Women’s World Cups (2015 and 2023), having made her senior national team debut in 2014. In 2015, her Colombian side became the first Spanish-speaking country in history to advance out of the group stage at a FIFA Women’s World Cup. At the 2023 tournament, Santos scored one of the most memorable goals of the competition with a lob over back-to-back Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper winner Mary Earps and eventual tournament runner-up England. During the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Santos netted two goals for Colombia, helping the side reach the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Since joining the Spirit this summer, Santos has appeared in ten matches for the Spirit, scoring two goals and adding one assist. On September 7 against Portland, the midfielder found the back of the net late in stoppage time by finishing a Trinity Rodman cross with a header. Santos has played 756 minutes for the Spirit across her time with the club so far.
