Leesburg, VA., (07/14/2021) — Washington Spirit forward Ashley Hatch has been named Budweiser NWSL Player of the Week for Week eight of the 2021 regular season. Hatch’s brace against the league’s top-ranked team led Washington to a victory that moved the Spirit to 4th place in the table.
Playing the full 90 minutes, Hatch scored both goals, including the game-winner, against the North Carolina Courage to break their four-game winning streak in front of a home crowd at Audi Field.
The first goal came after defender Tegan McGrady sent a cross into the box from the left flank. Despite the traffic in front of North Carolina’s net, Hatch’s perfect positioning set her up for a chance on goal that gave the Spirit an early lead in the 12th minute.

Hatch doubled Washington’s lead in stoppage time after midfielder Andi Sullivan won the ball in the center of the pitch. The midfielder slotted a through-ball to Hatch, who used her speed to get on the end of the pass and tuck the ball past North Carolina’s goalkeeper.
